Nonpareil {Story} [WIP]

It was midnight. A time of mystery, wonder and yet, fear. It was the transition time period from one day to the next, linking both past and future into a glorious present time. I stood up on the edge of the tallest skyscraper and looked down. The wind blew against the front of my body, soft upon my face as if telling me to step back. Eyes closed, I breathed in the sweet smell of air, my arms outstretched. I felt free, confident and utter bliss. I slowly picked up one foot and took a step.

I started falling ever so gracefully without a care in the world. Fear dare not linger. I opened my eyes and looked at my ring. It was beautiful. A peacock ore stone shaped as a heart with two diamond hearts on each side. The ring started to glow bright and my veins lit up like sparklers on the fourth of July. A brilliant white light spread through my core, even making my eyes a white color. As I fell, the wind around me, once harsh as I fell, started to feel like nothing. I was suspended in the air as if I could fly.
Suddenly, bright lights shot up to my face from below. Voices were frantic and screaming. I started to panic. The white light started to fade back into my ring and I started to fall. Tears raced down my face as I tried to find something to grab onto. I felt like a shooting star, helplessly falling until it would burn out upon a failed landing.

I closed my eyes tight as I fell to the ground with a vicious thump. I could practically hear my bones breaking. I opened my eyes and found myself on the floor of my bedroom. I could barely breathe and I was sweating. That dream again…

I started on my daily breathing exercises to get a hold of myself. It was just a dream. Dreams aren't real. Dreams are only there so you can tell what's real and what's not… right? I sighed and decided it was time to get ready for the day.
